Mr. Carothers joined Thorp Reed & Armstrong in 2003. He is a member of the firm's Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Group. Mr. Carothers has represented numerous businesses in out of court restructurings, as well as in Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganizations. He has also represented several unsecured creditor committees in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. In addition, Mr. Carothers' clients include lenders and businesses involved in bankruptcy and restructuring matters. He also routinely defends businesses and individuals in fraudulent transfer and fraud actions. Mr. Carothers also advises domestic and international companies on a wide variety of corporate issues, including entity formation, real estate transactions, asset purchases, general contract review, and compliance with various laws and regulations, notably the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. In 2002, Mr. Carothers served as law clerk to both United States Bankruptcy Judge Morgenstern-Clarren, in the Northern District of Ohio, and the 6th Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel.

Represented a Mexican individual and several Mexican companies in defense of a $50 million fraudulent transfer action in the IFS/Interamericas Corporation bankruptcy.
Represented numerous banks and secured parties in protecting their collateral in bankruptcy matters.
Represent over 100 companies and individuals per year in defense of “preference” and fraudulent transfer lawsuits. Have defended clients sued in these actions in, among other cases, the Enron Corporation, Collins & Aikman Corporation, Intermet Corporation, Huffy Corporation, Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation, J. Allen Steel, LTV Steel, Erie Power & Technologies and WCI Steel Corporation bankruptcies.
