In addition to general and commercial litigation, Mr. Bingler is knowledgeable in antitrust, RICO and white collar criminal defense. He joined the firm in 1971 and became a partner in 1974. Effective July 1, 1998, he retired and assumed the position of Counsel status with the firm.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Bingler served with the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in Mississippi and Louisiana, was an assistant United States attorney in Pittsburgh, and was director of the city’s Department of Public Safety. Between 1972 and 1974, he chaired the elected commission that wrote Pittsburgh’s Home Rule Charter.
Mr. Bingler was president of Pittsburgh’s Civil Service Commission from 1978-1988, president of the Allegheny County Bar Association in 1990 and chair of the Third Circuit’s Lawyers Advisory Committee in 1993. In 1995 and 1997 Mr. Bingler was nominated by the President to fill judgeship vacancies in the Western District of Pennsylvania. In 1998 he was appointed by Pittsburgh’s Mayor and Council to be one of seven members of Pittsburgh’s new civilian police review board.
